TFS soccer teams fall in playoff debuts

A historic season came to an end for Tallulah Falls’ girls soccer program Tuesday night, as they were blanked by Atlanta International School (AIS) 10-0 in the first round of the state playoffs.

   Lance Black grew up with Raider football, and his family is quite familiar with Habersham tradition.    He recently became the seventh member of the Black family to be selected for the Habersham Central Football Ring of Honor.

Raiders drop another close one to Lanier

   Habersham Central’s baseball team dropped another nailbiter Wednesday, as they were edged by Lanier 3-2 in an extra-innings thriller.     “Wednesday’s loss at Lanier was a definitely a tough pill to swallow,” Raiders head coach Chris Akridge said.

   Tallulah Falls groundskeepers might be looking for new bases to replace the well-worn bags used in the Indians’ 12-9 loss to region rival Athens Christian School Tuesday night.

Unmarked graves discovered during cemetery remapping

   More than 1,200 headstones dating as far back as the 1850s are spread across the grounds of Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarkesville.

Sheriff sets sights on recruiting

   Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell said it can cost the sheriff’s office upwards of $30,000 to $50,000 to train an officer without previous experience. So while he prefers to not have to do that, it’s a price he’s willing to pay to help offset the staffing shortage at the sheriff’s office.

Arrest made in Cornelia rape case

   Lester Hoyte, 35, of Toccoa was arrested on Tuesday on charges of rape, false imprisonment, sodomy and battery in relation to an incident involving a 17-year-old female.
