Teachers, food service workers roll right back into learning-at-home plan for students

   Teachers and food service workers returned this week from a most unusual spring break to their tasks of helping the students eat and learn during these unprecedented times.    On Wednesday, the school system served 4,886 meals (2,443 each of breakfasts and lunches).
The Baldwin City Council met on Tuesday evening to discuss several agenda items. Mayor Joe Elam and other city officials practiced social distancing inside the courtroom.

   As Special Purpose Local Operation Sales Tax (SPLOST) 2021 discussions continue, Baldwin has expressed satisfaction with a statutory population split to determine income for each city, but questioned an alternative scenario presented to them.

   Habersham County has officially arrived at the community spread stage of the COVID-19 crisis, as cases shot from seven to 79 in the last 11 days, including two deaths attributed to the disease by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

   Among the 10 agenda items discussed at Baldwin’s Tuesday City Council meeting, the council discussed if they want to continue contributing $5,000 a year to Partnership Habersham, the county’s economic development council based on a private-public partnership.

   Tyler Williams will take over as Chief Executive Officer of Habersham Medical Center beginning July 6, according to an announcement by the Hospital Authority of Habersham County on Tuesday.
A house was damaged by the overnight storm on Kitchens Road in Alto. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office was on scene and locals helped cleanup debris Monday morning.

   Sunday into Monday was a long night for many in Habersham County, as a terrible windstorm rocked the region, including an F1 tornado that tore through the south end of the county, damaging trees, businesses and homes.
