County candidate accused of sexual battery

Benny Ray Pate, 63, of Clarkesville – a candidate for District 1 Habersham County Commissioner – was arrested Thursday on a charge of misdemeanor sexual battery.
Pate had no comment on the arrest Monday but said he was still planning to run for the seat on the county commission.

That same chant is going on in the heads of many in the community as hopes for playing Little League Baseball are still flickering amid the COVID-19 shutdown.

Commissioners' appeal to Kemp: Close state parks

Commissioners from 12 rural Georgia counties signed a letter Monday to Gov. Brian Kemp asking him to close all state parks to further encourage residents – especially those areas heavy with COVID-19 positive cases – to shelter at home.

Soup kitchen volunteers still helping in time of great need

There has never been a more uncertain time for folks wondering when their next paycheck or meal will come. As such, the volunteers at the Habersham Soup Kitchen will not let the current adversity keep them from helping those in need.

Jeep burned in Clarkesville was arson

A vehicle fire in Clarkesville on Thursday has been ruled as arson by the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office.
Investigators determined that the fire that engulfed a 2019 Jeep Compass in Habersham County was intentionally set. The fire occurred shortly after 7 a.m.

“We are very excited to have Davis as a Tornado,” said Brevard College baseball coach Mike Victory.
