UPDATE: The boil advisory has been lifted. Water service has been restored. A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for the area from Rocky Branch to Washington Street as well as Salome and Carriage Lane. Please check back for updates.

Community tries to stay safe from COVID-19 outbreak

   The following cities in Habersham County have taken safety precautions with the ongoing spread of COVID-19. The Northeast Georgian will be monitoring any additional precautions taken.  ALTO    The Town has closed the lobbies of the Municipal Complex and the Police Department.

Radio icon Billy Burrell celebrates 90th birthday with community

   For seven decades, Billy Burrell has been pastor and friend to everyone in Northeast Georgia, whether they know it or not.    The community came out Friday morning to celebrate Habersham County’s all-time greatest radio personality a day before his 90th birthday.

Habersham County looking for ways to pay for new jail

   Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners reopened discussions Monday to try and find a way to build a new jail for the county.    Plans for the much-needed facility have been stagnant since the bond referendum was voted down in November by 8% of the county’s registered voters.
