Whit Hollowell tabbed HEMC’s acting CEO

The Habersham Electric Membership Corp. (HEMC) Board of Directors confirmed for The Northeast Georgian Tuesday Whit Hollowell has joined the cooperative as acting CEO. His first day at HEMC was Monday, Oct. 7, said HEMC Strategy and Communications Director Nicole Dover.

County holds 1st town hall for jail bond referendum

The Habersham County Commission, with the help of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), held its first town hall meeting to discuss the jail bond referendum on the upcoming Nov. 5 ballot.

REMEMBERING TIM LEE

Early last week, Tim Lee thought he had six months to live. As it turned out, he had only six days. Lee, Habersham Partnership for Growth (HPG)/Economic Development Council (EDC) executive director, succumbed to complications caused by esophageal cancer Sunday afternoon.

32nd annual Big Red Apple Festival draws thousands

Several thousand people showed up for Cornelia’s 32nd annual Big Red Apple Festival held in downtown Cornelia Saturday, Sept. 28. It is the largest event the city holds every year. Cornelia Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby said the event drew an estimated 4,500-5,000 people this year.

A chance to say goodbye

Just days before his death, peers, friends and loved ones of Tim Lee’s gathered Monday, Sept. 23, at the Delta Club in SunTrust Park for a dinner held in his honor, the Marietta Daily Journal (MDJ) reported.

Woman, 22, charged with Cornelia man’s murder

Authorities have charged a Habersham County woman with murder in the death of a Cornelia man, an official confirmed. Anslee Danielle Foster, 22, is accused of murdering Christopher Elderth, 36, of 856 Straight St., according to a press release issued Tuesday by Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith.
