Short manhunt nabs wanted man in Clarkesville

A wanted man who went after a woman he was supposed to stay away from was captured after a brief manhunt Friday near Clarkesville.

Election audits make way around Georgia

Georgia officials are working through audits of voting machines around the state to ensure election integrity heading into a major presidential election year in 2024. Habersham County Elections Supervisor Laurel Ellison said state officials have not yet made it here, but should be coming soon.

VFL helps those with dreams

Habersham County’s Volunteers for Literacy has been working tirelessly for many years to support the education of all residents. Executive Director Phylecia Wilson said the program is associated with North Georgia Technical College.

Longtime business property rezoned correctly

The Mt. Airy City Council held a public hearing and regular meeting Monday to discuss rezoning a property that the Planning and Zoning Board had previously overlooked. The property, located at 2070 Dicks Hill Pkwy., was previously A-1 Tire which has been operating as a business for nearly 50 years.

Lightning suspected of starting fire that destroyed Cornelia building

An outbuilding was destroyed by fire during Monday’s severe thunderstorm outside Cornelia. Habersham County E-911 dispatched the call to 196 Hosanna Lane just after 5:30 p.m., with Habersham County Station 12 arriving first.

Cleveland man charged in shooting incident

Habersham County investigators have charged a Cleveland man for his alleged role in an Aug. 2 shooting incident off Camp Creek Road outside Cornelia. Jacson Contreras, age 18, was arrested late Thursday night in White County and booked in at the Habersham County Detention Center early Friday.

Raiders speed past Vikings again

Habersham kicked off its 2023 campaign Friday evening with a 46-14 exhibition dismantling of East Hall at John Larry Black Field. Though quite warm at 7:30 kick time, it turned out to be a pleasant night in Mt. Airy once the sun dipped below the horizon.

Lady Raiders look to get off to a strong start

Habersham Central volleyball was back in action after press time Tuesday with its first official match of the season against Hart County. Last Thursday, the Lady Raiders picked up a solid exhibition win over Seckinger.
