Baldwin talks cemetery, Shop with a Hero

The City of Baldwin had the second council meeting of the month on Monday, with the council discussing the cemetery regulations and fees. It was brought to the council’s attention that there is no record of the cemetery’s requirements being voted on by any previous council.

Raiders ready to make pads pop for real

When you look at the numbers, Habersham’s 2022 offense hardly jumps off the page. The Raiders struggled mightily at times, averaging just 17 points per game – the lowest in Coach Benji Harrison’s tenure at the school. “Many of our guys weren’t too happy about last season,” Harrison said.

Animal shelter runs over capacity, avoids euthanasia

   After leaping above true capacity numbers, Habersham County Animal Care and Control successfully sent a few dogs to learn new homes. Last Friday started with an influx of six dogs, said director of the shelter Madi Nix.

   Habersham County leaders initially looked to assuage concerns by residents of The Orchard about putting a new radio tower there before pivoting back in April and sticking with their original plan, emails and county documents show.

Local man’s military memorabilia is a tribute to service

   Mount Airy resident and Vietnam War Veteran Charlie Mack “BooBee” Booth houses a military memorabilia collection dating back to World War II that would rival anyone’s.    Booth was in ninth grade when he decided to drop out of school and serve his country.

Highway 365 crashes take 5 lives, hurt 7

Habersham County suffered two horrific crashes over the weekend, the worst of which killed five people, including two small children. Both crashes occurred on Highway 365, which has been notorious for being one of the most dangerous highways in the region.
