Habersham County schools opened their doors Wednesday and welcomed students and parents to get ready for the new year, which began today.

Shots fired, no one hurt in Cornelia argument

A pregnant woman was among several people involved in an argument in Cornelia on Wednesday that ended with shots fired. Just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Camp Creek Road and Wilson Road near the water plant.

Demorest Councilman Shawn Allen has a passion for Demorest and its history, as he has expressed many times over the years. Allen has stepped up his efforts to preserve the city’s legacy even more since the new city hall was opened in the old elementary school where he once attended.

Cornelia ponders use of community beautification grant

Cornelia Mayor John Borrow and the city commission welcomed Audrey Davenport to speak in the public forum of Tuesday’s meeting about the city’s possibility to implement ordinances for murals, and to discuss the opportunities for the Vibrant Communities Grant.

TFS welcomes first fourth grade class, new teacher

Tallulah Falls School is set to have their first fourth grade class this school year. Students are going to class Monday, and although this will be a new school for students and teacher Sandy Crenshaw, it is far from her first rodeo in education.

Cornelia to monitor bridge usage

Before the Tuesday meeting, City of Cornelia officials met with Connor Land, a field representative for U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) to discuss the future of the Hoyt Street bridge. The bridge remains closed to car traffic, but is open for foot traffic.
