Author brings young adult fiction book back to Habersham County

Inspired by his grandchildren to write a book aimed at younger generations, George Hudson returned to Habersham County to hold book signings of his debut adolescent novel “Shep’s Adventures,” last week, with his first stop being the Cornelia Library on Thursday.

Spring Lake Living cover contest underway

Families mourn teens lost in crash

The community is still feeling the effects of the death of two local teenagers in a March 8 one-car crash on Highway 254. Dawson Zachery Ansley, 16, of Baldwin, and Walter Avery Camargo, 16, of Cornelia died when their car flipped multiple times after veering off a wet roadway late at night.

Clarkesville, Cornelia fill council seats

It took two attempts, but Clarkesville finally has a new council member. Habersham County native Brendon Ansley finally stepped forward to fill former councilman Steven Ward’s seat Monday after no one filed for the election through the entirety of last week’s qualifying period.

Landlord honored for community service

Local landlord and owner of Herrin Community Jeff Herrin has been recognized by Circle of Hope, an organization which aims to support victims of domestic violence, with the Circle of Excellence award for his continued partnership and dedication to those working to recover from past trauma.

Courthouse to become affordable housing

The possible fate of the former courthouse structure in downtown Clarkesville was revealed at a special called meeting Wednesday by town planner Lew Oliver, who requested that council vote to recognize the future transfer of the site from the county to the Habersham County Development Authority.

Students earn scholarships

The Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs (GAAF) held its annual convention last month at the Georgia National Fair Grounds and Agriculture Center in Perry and awarded two of their three scholarships to local students. Each student has been actively involved with the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair.

Clarkesville couple arrested again for alleged drug trafficking

A Clarkesville couple who have run afoul of the law before on drug charges were arrested again after a chase with law enforcement officers on March 9. Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a car on Highway 115 in Demorest for a traffic violation.
