Habersham Central High School student injured in midday wreck

Habersham Central High School student Miguel Martinez, 17, of Cornelia, sustained injuries in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday on J. Warren Road.

Roxie Barron resigns from Clarkesville Council

Clarkesville Councilwoman Roxie Barron has submitted her resignation to the city, effective March 16, citing a decision to move to Florida to be closer to her family, including her grandchildren. “My daughter and grandchildren are here in Florida,” Barron said. “It’s time.

Beginning next school year, the leadership of Habersham County Schools will look a little different, as new principals will be joining the staff following some transfers and promotions to other positions in the district.

Clarkesville quandary

Habersham County Commissioners voted 3-2 to table a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) that would have signaled a step forward in determining the future of the former courthouse structure in downtown Clarkesville.

Family and friends of Ciera Locklair Breland have been searching for any sign of her for the last month, and they are looking for all the help they can get. The FBI in Atlanta is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to her whereabouts, as she has been missing since Feb. 24.

Alto Mayor Turner announces retirement
