Judge investigated after domestic incident

State judicial officials and the Georgia Supreme Court are looking into a domestic incident involving Habersham County Chief Magistrate Judge Gerald Johnson. On Oct. 18, Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Fairview Court area after a report by neighbors that shots had been fired.

Blackburn to lead Cornelia Elementary

Amy McCurdy is stepping aside as principal of Cornelia Elementary to take a part-time position within the school system.

Dunkin’ Donuts buys property in Cornelia

According to Cornelia’s Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby, Dunkin Donuts closed on a property in Cornelia Nov. 4. Now, the planning department and the county fire marshal have both reviewed and approved the plans for a new Dunkin Donuts location to open.

Mt. Airy set to repair 7th Street Bridge

Mt. Airy has been talking about making repairs to the 7th Street Bridge for almost two years, and town officials decided to close it for some upkeep from Nov. 22 until Dec. 13 or until completion. Norfolk Southern Railroad in conjunction with the town will work on installing new decking.

Baldwin citizens concerned about annexation plans

Before approving the reading of an ordinance annexing 138 acres of land near Highway 365 and Alto Mud Creek Road during a Monday council meeting, a number of Baldwin residents went before council to voice concerns.

Mother needs a new kidney to survive

According to USA Today, nearly 100,000 Americans are on a waiting list to receive a kidney transplant. April Clark of Clayton is one of them. Clark, a 44-year-old former resident of Habersham County, said she’s been on dialysis for kidney failure for three years.

Election gaffe has no effect on races

While election turnout was low on Nov. 2, it was reported slightly under what it actually was. The Habersham County Elections Office scanned a total of six batches of absentee ballots on Election Night, but only included one of those batches on their unofficial totals at the end of the night.
