   The Habersham County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to move the start of school to Tuesday, Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day, to give teachers and administrators more time to meet the challenges of in-person learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

   The North Habersham Middle School community was saddened this weekend by the death of 14-year-old student Lucero Ramirez. Ramirez passed away due to an illness.    “We have been informed that one of our middle school students has passed away.

   Emails from an open records request indicate that Baldwin Mayor Joe Elam asked for the resignation of former City Administrator Jerry Neace. The request came before the city and Neace agreed to a separation agreement that paid him $101,021.04.     On Sunday, July 19, at 7:51 p.m.

   For now, Habersham County Schools are on course for an Aug. 21 opening, but the Board of Education plans to discuss that scenario Monday to see if they still want to move forward with that plan.
