Georgians represented well in MLB Draft

   Earlier this week, 18 players who are either from the state of Georgia or who played their collegiate baseball in Georgia were selected in the 2024 MLB Draft.    With the 3rd overall pick, the Colorado Rockies took Georgia 3B/OF Charlie Condon.

Georgia hosts N.C. State in super regional

   After sweeping their way through the Athens Regional last weekend, the University of Georgia baseball team will play host to N.C. State for the NCAA Super Regionals matchup this weekend. The best-of-three series begins at noon Saturday at UGA’s Foley Field.

Georgia marches on to Super Regional

   The University of Georgia baseball team is heading to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since 2008, after the Bulldogs took care of rival Georgia Tech 8-6 in a 4 hour, 7 minutes extra innings affair Sunday night.

Farmers eligible for loans due to ’23 drought

   The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has classified Habersham County, along with 16 others, as a primary natural disaster area due to severe drought conditions seen last fall, making local farmers eligible for emergency relief loans from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

Mail fiasco causing county, Congress plenty of headaches

   Many of Habersham County’s recreation baseball players were without uniforms for the first week of games before spring break.    The shirts were ordered and produced, but they were sitting in the U.S. Postal Service’s new processing center in Palmetto that is causing so much angst across Georgia.

Proposed sales tax bill gets LOST in space

   Habersham County leaders have been looking for a way to get a Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) back on the books for the county, and Rep. Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia) crafted a bill in January to do just that.
