Second case of bird flu found in Elbert County

   The Georgia Department of Agriculture has detected a positive case of bird flu in a second commercial poultry flock in Elbert County.    The first case was confirmed on Jan. 17 with the second case confirmed on Jan. 22.    According to a Jan.

By Wade Cheek CNI News Service  NEW ORLEANS — Pregame jubilation and anticipation was abruptly displaced with horror and safety concerns in New Orleans prior to the 91st Allstate Sugar Bowl as a pickup smashed through a city street filled with New Year's partiers, killing 15 and injuring others.

Carter dies after a century of service

   Former President Jimmy Carter died Sunday, Dec. 29, at the age of 100. He was at his home in Plains with family and had been under the care of hospice since February 2023. He was elected America’s 39th president, from 1977 to 1981, having previously served as Georgia governor.

Farmers eligible for loans due to ’23 drought

   The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has classified Habersham County, along with 16 others, as a primary natural disaster area due to severe drought conditions seen last fall, making local farmers eligible for emergency relief loans from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).
