Who's qualified for local office

   As qualifying for local office wrapped up at noon on Friday, former Demorest Police Chief Robin Krockum remains the sole candidate for sheriff.  Commission    All three commission races are contested this year.

Still no challengers to Krockum for sheriff

   Habersham County Chairman Ty Akins added his name to the list of candidates for the upcoming May 21 primary.    Akins will run for his first full term as District 5 commissioner after filling the remaining three years on the term won by Tim Stamey in 2020.

Plenty to root for

   Yeah it still gets a little chilly at night, but it feels more like spring with each passing week. Next week’s forecast calls for 5 straight days in the 70s and, more importantly, at least 4 of those carry a sub-50 percent chance of rain.

K9’s bite too much for Elephants

   Konner Burrell just keeps doing his thing for the Diamond Raiders, who shut down Gainesville 1-0 Wednesday to improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in region play.    Burrell pitched a complete game gem.

Girl Scouts make mark in community

   Though she was never a Girl Scout herself, Leigh Lipkin has been leading troops for 28 years, and has been with Troop 11208 in Cornelia for over a decade.    “My mother wouldn’t let me be a girl scout. Things were different back in the day I guess,” she laughed.

Miles calls on veterans to make voices heard

   Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720 Commander Bill Miles commanded 10,000 troops while serving in Iraq. He would love to have those kinds of numbers now.

Demorest says good bye ... county says hello?

   Demorest gave its retiring police chief Robin Krockum a fine sendoff Friday afternoon, but they don’t plan on sending him too far away.
