Habersham County Chairman Ty Akins added his name to the list of candidates for the upcoming May 21 primary.
Akins will run for his first full term as District 5 commissioner after filling the remaining three years on the term won by Tim Stamey in 2020.

Girl Scouts make mark in community

Though she was never a Girl Scout herself, Leigh Lipkin has been leading troops for 28 years, and has been with Troop 11208 in Cornelia for over a decade.
“My mother wouldn’t let me be a girl scout. Things were different back in the day I guess,” she laughed.
