Piedmont University’s annual disaster drill – an elaborate, interdisciplinary training exercise that allows students to collaborate with local public safety agencies – will take place March 23. The scenario: Suspicious packages, possibly bombs, placed on the Demorest campus.

Sheriff's Office unveils new search drone

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has upgraded its Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) program with a state-of-the-art drone and new onboard flight technology. The drone, a DJI Mavic 2, comes equipped with visible and thermal imagery through a dual-camera system.

Golden anniversaries celebrated

Kathy and Jack Molnar Kathy and Jack Molnar are celebrating 50 years of wedded bliss. In May 1971, 2nd Lt. Kathy Monahan met 2nd Lt. Jack Molnar in the Bachelor Officer Quarters at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. Six weeks later, they were engaged, and on March 11, 1972, they married.

Habersham teens killed in midnight crash

Two Habersham County teenagers were killed in a car crash in White County early Tuesday morning. Dawson Zachery Ansley, 16, of Baldwin, and Walter Avery Camargo, 16, of Cornelia lost their lives in the one-car crash.

CDL truck driving program expands at North Georgia Tech

Quiet filing period goes on

No candidates qualified to run for the open Clarkesville City Council seat with just 22 hours to go until the filing period ends at noon Friday. The seat was vacated when Councilman Steven Ward passed away in December.
