New Liberty Road repair most expensive in county at $800K

   After an original repair estimate of $1 million, the revised cost to repair the flood damage to New Liberty Road is at $800,000.    The road, north of Clarkesville and beyond North Habersham Middle School, sunk in from the enormous water pressure caused by the torrential rains on Oct. 10.

Dogs return home to family after storm

   When Anthony and Jennifer Cox’s dogs went missing following the storms in the county from remnants of Hurricane Delta, they and their children were helpless.     “The weekend of the storm we were out of town,” Anthony said.

Wanted fugitive Chambers found in Lumpkin County chicken house

   Charles Eric Chambers of Cleveland was apprehended by Lumpkin County Sheriff’s deputies on Thursday morning.    Chambers has been wanted by authorities for the last month after allegedly abducting his 18-month-old son from a Clarkesville home in the middle of the night.

   Several years ago, Becky Griffin of Demorest knew a young, healthy, vibrant woman who was shockingly diagnosed with breast cancer. Just 10 months later, her friend died.    “That freaked me out, so I started getting checked,” Griffin said.

Habersham County woman killed in house fire

   An intense house fire in the south end of Habersham County on Monday led to the death of 64-year old Cynthia Clayton and a total loss of the home.    Clayton’s body was discovered Monday afternoon and confirmed by the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.

Tallulah Falls honors its senior runners

   The Tallulah Falls boys’ cross country managed a third place finish in its final home meet of the year.     In a ceremony before the meet, Grey Bourlet, Collin Kelly, Chaz Mullis and Eli Sims, the team’s four seniors, were honored.

Lady Raiders softball team finally has a playoff opponent

   After completing their regular 10 days ago, Habersham Central’s softball team (16-12, 7-8) now knows who its opponent in the opening round of the state playoffs.
