Finishing budget tops legislature agenda

After being suspended on March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia’s legislature reconvened Monday after a nearly three-month hiatus.  “It was very good to get back in session and begin doing the business of the people again,” said District 28 Representative Chris Erwin.
Local youth leagues are hoping to get going in the fall as programs are slowly allowed to open up again.

Habersham County parks and recreation slowly opening facilities

   Habersham County Parks and Recreation is nearly at Phase 2 of its reopening plan, which begins Monday, June 15.    The fields behind the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center have been open the last couple of weeks to groups smaller than 25 people.

   For Joey Terrell, the last 12 years have flown by, possibly because he enjoys being sheriff of Habersham County so much.    Terrell will get another four years to serve in that capacity after a resounding victory in Tuesday’s election over challenger Sam Jones.

   Three months without any sports has seemed like an eternity for some, but Habersham Central High School’s top athletes were happy just to get a chance to start working out again this week at school, preparing for what they hope is a normal season in 2020-21.
