The City of Demorest has received a demand letter of legal claims from Piedmont College and certain officials.    The Aug. 7 letter notifies of potential litigation unless claims including but not limited to fraud, racketeering conflict of interest are resolved.

After three months of searching, Baldwin has tabbed William Anastasio as its new police chief. Anastasio, a native of New York City, comes to Baldwin after spending 33 years with the Roswell Police Department.

If football goes forward this fall, Habersham Central will feature one of the top players in the country.    Sports Illustrated included Raiders standout Josh Pickett as one of its 1,000 players nationwide for its All-American watch list for 2020.

Habersham County will have a lot of fresh faces on the Board of Commissioners, as former Demorest councilman Bruce Harkness upset two-term Commissioner Natalie Crawford on Tuesday night for the seat in District 4.    “I want to thank all the voters that came out and supported me and voted for me.
“Leaving Lennox” with Mick Hambly and Lauren Val played last year at the Big Red Apple Festival in Cornelia. There will be no singing and revelry in the downtowns of Cornelia or Clarkesville this fall, as both the Big Red Apple Festival and the Mountain Laurel Festival have been canceled due to concerns over the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 33rd Big Red Apple Festival and the 58th Mountain Laurel Festival are among many events that have been cancelled by cities in Habersham County and across the country due to concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leading up to Tuesday’s runoff, it seemed that the closest race of all could be in Georgia Senate District 50 between Bo Hatchett and Stacy Hall.    That proved true, so much so that the Republican nomination for that seat is still too close to call a few days later.

Lady Raiders volleyball team spikes Stephens County

Habersham Central’s volleyball team began its season in spectacular fashion, as they swept rival Stephens County on Tuesday.     “I was really proud of the way we played overall,” said HCHS volleyball coach Lindsay Herrin.
