Community mourns passing of beloved bookstore owner

   Habersham County has many aching hearts after losing one of its community pillars, Glenda Boling, who passed away Nov. 26 at age 74.    Glenda was known as the kind owner/operator of Books with A’Peal in Cornelia, which she bought with her husband Jerry and as of Nov.

   Habersham Medical Center is breaking ground on their new rehab center today, which will ultimately increase space for the services offered at the facility.

Local man – 'angel on Earth' – killed in car crash

   A Habersham County man died tragically Friday in a car crash, leaving behind a loving wife and family. Allan Lee Hansen, 22, of Clarkesville was driving south on Cannon Bridge Road on Friday afternoon when his Jeep Wrangler traveled off the west shoulder, struck a driveway culvert and overturned.

Tim Stamey earned 57 percent of the vote Tuesday to defeat Darrin Johnston for the fifth vacant Habersham County Commission seat, according to unofficial results released by the Habersham County Elections Office.

   The special election to fill the final seat on the Habersham County Commission is just days away, and the two candidates who survived the Nov. 5 general election will face off in a runoff Tuesday, Dec. 3.

   The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps began at Habersham Central High School in 2006. Since then, Major Etoya Hearon said the program has grown in terms of the opportunities they’ve had to participate in more challenging events.

   The Georgia Department of Transportation is continuing with tree removal projects which is said to be for driver safety.     Drivers will see that trees have come down on the state Route 365 and 441 bypass, as well as SR 365 northbound leading into the exit for Historic Highway 441.
