Victim in Baldwin shooting dies as GBI investigates

   A Baldwin man died from gunshot wounds Sunday night, according to Baldwin Police Chief Jeff Branyon.    Officers with the Baldwin Police Department responded to the call between 9-10 p.m. at a mobile home park off West Airport Road.

School board eyes millage rate rollback

There could be some salvation for Habersham County residents worried about impending tax increases this year. The Habersham County Board of Education is proposing a rollback tax rate from 12.566 mills to 11.726, a reduction of 0.84 mills.

Appraisal comes in at $900K

County officials have released an official appraisal for the former courthouse structure in downtown Clarkesville, concluding that the market value is $900,000 with the building itself intact and indicating that it could cost the county $316,250 to demolish it.

All aboard for Synder’s big day

Saturday, July 23, has been proclaimed Buck Snyder Day by Cornelia officials, and it will be a day to honor and celebrate Snyder for his efforts to protect and preserve the Cornelia Depot. The public is invited to an open house at the depot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free Kona Ice.

The following public meetings are scheduled from July 15-21. Habersham County Commission: Millage rate hearings at 11 a.m. (county administration building) and 6 p.m. (county courthouse), Monday, July 18. The commission will hold a 4:30 p.m.

Family Resource Center closes one of two locations

Family Resource Center of Northeast Georgia (FRC) has decided to close its Laurel Drive location in Clarkesville to save on costs amid rising inflation and rental rates.
