Rainy year has farmers taking it one repair at a time

   Between the challenges brought on by this year’s climate, the weather and COVID-19, farmers across Northeast Georgia can’t seem to catch a break.

Second DUI crash in 48 hours kills small child

   A terrible weekend for Habersham County’s first responders got worse Monday morning, when a two-car head-on collision took the life of a 5-year-old child.    The cars crashed around 9:30 a.m.

County pursues grant, juggles SPLOST for storm repairs

   Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners officially approved a county application Monday for a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation that if received will mitigate some of the costs of damage caused by Hurricanes Delta and Zeta in October.

A year after failed referendum, Habersham County Jail remains in peril

   A year after the bond referendum for a new Habersham County jail failed, very little has changed.    “There is no way to remedy the issues we have until we get a new jail,” Sheriff Joey Terrell said. “The one we have does not meet current jail standards.

   It was strange that Frank Hemphill served faithfully in the U.S. Navy, due to one particular character trait he possessed.    “He didn’t like being told what to do very much,” Hemphill’s daughter Cindy Bush said.
Flash flooding from Hurricane Delta on Oct. 11 trapped some residents of Lunar Eclipse Mobile Home Park,  located just outside Clarkesville city limits, inside their homes, and trapped others on their roofs. Rescue crews used boats to get the residents to safety. No one was seriously injured during the catastrophe.

Clarkesville mobile home park residents hit hard by Hurricane Delta

   A handful of families woke up around 11 p.m. in early October to find that a major storm caused by Hurricane Delta as it made its way from Louisiana to the Carolinas flooded their humble homes and they needed help getting out.
