Habersham County task force looks to protect local children

   Habersham County’s Special Victims Unit Patrol Task Force has been in operation for eight months, and investigators for the sheriff’s office are doing all they can to protect the children of the county.    Local authorities charged two individuals in child abuse cases this week.

   Tallulah Falls School President and Head of School Larry Peevy has been named a Legacy Leader by Georgia Trend magazine. He was featured in the 35th anniversary edition as the recognition highlights 15 people who have dedicated themselves to improving lives across the state.

Anderson set to leave Hospital Authority, if he wins House seat

Habersham County, city of Baldwin reach tentative agreement on annexation

   The Habersham County Board of Commissioners and the city of Baldwin avoided an arbitration hearing Thursday when they reached tentative agreement about an annexation that likely will lead to hundreds of new homes in a new development on a 145-acre tract along Wilbanks and Thompson Roads.

Georgia near lowest in Census completion

   Georgia continues at nearly the bottom ranking for U.S. Census completion and officials at all levels continue to urge residents to complete their 2020 Census which is Constitutionally mandated.     As of Sept. 13, Georgia’s total enumerated response was 84.

Superintendent addresses Black Lives Matter controversy at school

   Community leader Portia Burns spoke passionately Monday night at the Habersham County Board of Education meeting about respect for Black lives in the wake of a controversy at the Ninth Grade Academy, where a teacher was asked to take down a BLM sticker from a file cabinet.
