Gym owner: Bid is fair

   The gymnastics program provided by Habersham County Parks and Recreation Department continues to be a point of contention after a Cleveland-based gym expressed interest in taking over the program last week.

Turkey Trot for a good cause

   BSG Coffee and Elite Recovery hosted a Turkey Trot on Saturday to benefit the local Kiwanis Club.    The event started with a Jazzercise warm-up at First Baptist Church in Cornelia, along with BSG-made coffee to warm up the runners on the cold morning.

County holds Farm City Breakfast today

Superior court judge denies bail for Rivera-Sanchez

   Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanchez was denied bond for the alleged kidnapping and murder of 25-year-old Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez in late October.    Rodriguez-Ramirez was last seen at Walmart in Cornelia around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. After being reported missing on Oct.

‘One of our only options’

   Demolition of the old county courthouse could be in the near future.    Habersham County Development Authority Chairman Jim Butterworth approached the board of commissioners on Monday calling demolition “one of our only options left.

Interim likely for county manager

   The clock is ticking for Habersham County to select a new county manager before current manager Alicia Vaughn’s contract ends on Dec. 27, and the board is leaning towards selecting an interim candidate for the role until an official hire can be made.

Changing lives

   Between 1999 and 2018, Boyd Kinney was in and out of rehab facilities in Georgia until he stumbled upon accountability court, a set of strict five-phase programs that use classes, mental health treatment, drug screens and surveillance to keep people out of jail.

Trump taps Doug Collins to head Veterans Affairs

   President-elect Donald Trump will nominate former U.S. Rep. Doug Collins of Gainesville to head the Department of Veterans Affairs, Trump announced on social media Thursday.

Area gym seeks rec program

   A Cleveland-based gymnastics center is looking to take over the gymnastics program currently provided by the Habersham County Parks and Recreation Department, serving between 600 and 700 youth in the area.
