Baldwin increases millage rate

The City of Baldwin approved an increase in its millage rate by .689 mills, resulting in a property tax hike for city residents.
The millage rate for Baldwin residents in Habersham county will be 9.17, while the rate for Banks County residents will be 4.728.

Demorest increases property taxes

Demorest residents will be paying 30.21 percent more in 2024 property taxes due to the increase of the millage rate that was passed in Tuesday’s meeting.
During the public hearing, residents voiced their opinions on the tax increase.

SK Battery pays $31M to North Ga. recycling center

Global electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer SK Battery America, Inc., recently agreed to pay a $31 million settlement to Commerce-based Metro Site recycling center which caught fire and burned to the ground last July.
