Celebrate Newspapers in Education

This week is Newspapers in Education Week.    It is a week when educators are inspired to incorporate newspapers in the classroom.    Here in Habersham County, inspiration arrives every Wednesday in schools.

Letters to the Editor

Hope Trump pulls it off To the editor:    Are you wondering just what is going on in the mind of President Trump? Youc an join me as I am somewhat perplexed.    What are all the tariffs about?

Scratching Cunningham’s back

Emory Jones is my little one’s favorite writer. Well, Emory and Dav Pilkey are.    But, Dav Pilkey never gave him one of the first copies of his new book.    Or, let him be his model as he learned how to use a real camera.

Practice fire safety

We had the warnings going into the weekend.    There would be low humidity, winds, and dry vegetation.    The weather was perfect for fires, and ones that could spread quickly. Just the smallest spark had the potential to cause something major.

Letters to the Editor

Trump and Ukraine To the editor:    It’s hard to believe we have a President who believes Russia can invade Ukraine then keep part of Ukraine territory.    If Russia came across the Bering Strait and invaded Alaska would it be OK for Russia to keep part of Alaska?

A home of seven plus two eggs

After supper on Sunday night, my life changed. Well, at least for the next 50 or so days, but the memory will follow me forever. A new responsibility was laid in the hands of William and Fenn as the noise of vehicles roaring northeast and southeast on I-85 filled the air.

Thumbs up our high school teams

Thumbs up to our Habersham Central Raiders basketball teams. The boys team finished their season in the Elite Eight Wednesday night, while the girls made it to the Sweet 16. • Thumbs up to the Raiders wrestling team.

Letters to the Editor

Deep gratitude to Whitfield Funeral Home, VFW honor guard To the editor:    Words cannot express my gratitude to Whitfield Funeral Home in Demorest and the VFW honor guard that took care of my family and my husband during a very difficult time.

From a certain point of view

We were looking for something to watch this weekend, and I suggested Star Wars. When my son, who has every word of Revenge of the Sith memorized (I wish that was an exaggeration) selected that episode, I realized I needed to be more specific.    “No, A New Hope,” I told him.

Let’s read!

This week is a big week for reading.    Theodor Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904.
