A great nation To the editor:    The United States of America is a great world leader in policy making, one of the wealthiest countries, beautiful natural resources, freedom of speech and many other freedoms. People from all over the world want to visit the USA.

Taking a chance

   It’s hard to believe.    A month from today is Habersham Central High School’s graduation, and my Cal will be among those walking across the stage to be handed his diploma.

A special treat

   With the natural beauty and peace of our area, it should be no surprise that the wedding industry is big here. Many weddings take place each year in Northeast Georgia, with the couples and their guests contributing thousands to our economy.

   Does anybody remember The Yo-Yo Man?    That’s what I asked several of my friends from elementary and high school—mostly retired now except for doctor appointments.

   For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been highlighting in our sports section the outstanding athletes selected for this year’s Ring of Honor class.    The Ring of Honor is Habersham County’s Football Hall of Fame that annually recognizes former athletes for their accomplishments.

Cursive writing could become hieroglyphics

   Most days, the news is like slicing a soccer-ball-sized onion. The headlines will make your eyes water with frustration, anger or fear—mass murders, disappearing jobs, tariffs on a yo-yo string, trade wars or panic over prices.

   A long time ago, in a state far, far away, I covered professional wrestling.     Seriously.     I got to meet and interview quite a few of the performers during that time.

Keep movement going on courthouse property

   Spring is a time for rebirth. All around us, dogwoods and azaleas are blooming, and the grass is growing.    And, in downtown Clarkesville, the old courthouse is coming down.    This will provide the city with “a whole new look,” as Interim County Manager Tim Sims said.
