Raider baseball, Lady Raiders soccer battle in Thursday playoff tilts

   Habersham Central's baseball team split with South Paulding in their first-round series on the road Thursday night. The Raiders won Game 1 8-3 and fell 10-1 in the nightcap.    The Raiders will play a sudden death Game 3 on Friday night to determine who will advance.

Tallulah Falls baseball team hosts playoff first-round series

   Tallulah Falls' baseball team swept Oglethorpe 10-0 and 7-2 in a state playoff doubleheader on Tuesday after press time to advance to the second round. The No. 2 seeded Indians will play on the road if the No. 1 seed from the opposite bracket wins.

Raider tennis teams dance way into Sweet 16

   With a win to clinch their spot in the GHSA Sweet 16, the Habersham Central boys tennis team added another milestone to an increasingly successful spring in Raider athletics.    The boys breezed past Newnan in the first round matchup and advanced to take on Johns Creek next week.

Indians dominate in first-round rout

   Tallulah Falls’ boys soccer team trounced Prince Avenue Christian 10-0 to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season Wednesday night.

Raider soccer teams host first-round playoff games

   Habersham Central's girls soccer team ran roughshod 10-0 over Paulding County on Thursday night in the first round of the state playoffs to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time.    The Raider boys take on Douglas County Friday night in their first-round matchup.

Lady Indians join championship party

   In a winner-take-all for Region 8-A DI, the Lady Indians edged out Rabun County Friday at home, 3-2. That garners TFS its first-ever region crown for girls soccer.    Jenna Chesser scored twice in the second half, and assisted LB Kafsky in the game’s lone first half tally.

Seniors honored, Raiders qualify for state playoffs

   The Habersham Central baseball team took down Jackson County 5-2 Friday to clinch the Diamond Raiders’ fourth playoff berth in program history.    The Panthers (9-17, 5-10 Region 8-6A) pushed across 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning thanks to a 2-run homer.

South Hab legend Benfield tapped for Ring of Honor

   When Herman Benfield last laced up his cleats to represent Habersham, there was no Habersham Central. In fact, it would be nearly two decades until South Habersham and North Habersham consolidated into one institution.

   Raider Stadium was a pressure cooker from kickoff to final whistle (and beyond) Tuesday night as the Habersham Central boys soccer team stunned North Forsyth 1-0 to win the GHSA Region 8-6A title.    “It’s an awesome feeling to know that the work we’ve put in paid off,” said Coach Ric Wallace.
