Habersham Central’s basketball teams went into Gainesville on Friday night and came out with two wins, creating a landmark night for the program as a whole. The boys – led by big man JoJo McCurry – won 57-50, while Kyia Barrett and the girls won 48-46.

Raiders' basketball, soccer teams host big games

   Habersham Central's soccer teams opened the regular season Tuesday night and split with Johnson High. The Lady Raiders won 3-0, while the Raider boys fell 3-1 to last year's state champs.

Barrett’s barrage lifts Lady Raiders over Jaxco

Kyia Barrett has had a few shooting nights she would like to forget. Friday was not one of those nights. The star junior point guard drilled seven 3-pointers on the way to 25 points as the Lady Raiders pounced from the second quarter on and blew out Jackson County 66-38.

TFS swim seniors honored in final meet

Tallulah Falls’ swim teams honored their seniors on Saturday in what marked the final home meet of the season in the 1A Championship Invite. Both the girls and boys teams took first place, as St. Francis, Mount Vernon and Commerce all competed against Tallulah Falls.

Raiders host Shiloh in pivotal home clash

   Habersham Central's basketball teams split with Shiloh on Tuesday night in the first game of the second half of the region schedule.    The Lady Raiders completed a season sweep of the Generals with a 55-34 win, while the boys lost another close battle, 53-49.

Youth baseball, softball registration available online

Registration for the 2023 spring baseball and softball seasons runs through Feb. 6. The Habersham County Recreation Department has absorbed the baseball and softball program and will be distributing registration information throughout the month. Players can register online at www.

TFS-based Shetland named Pony of the Year

Cherryville Majic’s Gigolo, owned by Larry and Dinah Peevy of Tallulah Falls School, has been named Foundation Driving Pony of the Year in 2022 by the American Shetland Pony Club.

Gainesville rains down 3s on Raiders

Habersham Central’s boys seemed for most of Friday night’s game to be in position to knock off region rival Gainesville, but the Red Elephants reached down and found a 3-pointer every time they needed one.
