Black has broadcast three decades of Raider football

Chris Black is heading into his 32nd year on the airwaves calling Habersham Central football, and he is not planning on stopping now. “Even if I wanted to leave, I don’t think David (Foster) would let me,” Black said. “I am going to keep doing this as long as I am able to.

Raiders spring back onto the gridiron

There were loud screams of encouragement sprinkled around the popping of pads and the shrill of coaches’ whistles. It was clear Wednesday afternoon that football was back.

King was just that for Raider teams

While every team sport is about the whole group coming together, every successful team has a main guy. It’s the guy they can all look at and say, “That’s the dude who’s taking us to the top.” To a man, Tavarres King’s teammates and fellow Ring of Honor inductees will say that he was that guy.

Habersham, TFS track teams head to sectionals

Habersham Central will take 19 track and field athletes to sectionals this weekend, one of the largest contingents the Raiders have mustered in recent years.

Honor comes sooner for Raider legend Franklin

Daniel Franklin loved a lot of things about football, but it was the very basic nature of the gridiron battles that he enjoyed the most. “I just liked to play,” said Franklin, who joins four of his teammates in the Ring of Honor Class of 2022.

Back on the road, back on top

David Turner of Clarkesville won the 80-plus division at the USATF 5K National Road Championship in Atlanta last month. The race was run in conjunction with the Publix Marathon. Turner had a hip replacement 11 months ago and got back into his passion for running in a big way with the win.

TFS golf teams finish season, eye bright future

In a season that opened a new era for Tallulah Falls golf, both the girls and boys teams showed tremendous growth from start to finish. In coach Hannah Satterfield’s first season as the head coach, the girls and boys showed what they are capable of, as well as how their future success is imminent.

Former two-way star Roberts liked hitting people

Matt Roberts did not like running to daylight. He was usually looking for someone to run over. Roberts, who will join four of his younger teammates in this year’s Habersham Central Ring of Honor, played running back and linebacker for the Raiders from 2003-06.

TFS teack team prepares for area meet

Tallulah Falls School’s track and field team used the Athens Academy meet to prepare for next week’s Area 6 Championship. Though low key, the meet was certainly competitive and provided opportunities for various records, and was the final meet for some of the team.
