World Series champs again

The Habersham County-based Velo Factory 14-and-under squad won the Perfect Game World Series in Savannah over the weekend. It is the second-straight title for this group that won the same title in Nashville, Tenn., last year as 13-year-olds.

Raiders add three to hoops Hall of Fame

The Habersham Central Basketball Hall of Fame will induct three new members this season. Raider hoops stars Renee York and Pat Burns, along with coach Don Ledbetter, will be honored at a ceremony when the Raiders host White County on Dec. 2.

Football's just three weeks away

Football season is nearly here, as the Raiders will take on East Hall in a scrimmage game on the road in three weeks on Friday, Aug. 5. Last year, the fans came out in force for the preseason scrimmage game, but they will have to travel a little to see the Raiders early on this season.

Kinsey to host camp for kids

A Friday Night Lights football camp will be held Friday, July 15, at Raider Stadium in Mt. Airy. The camp will include instruction from NFL players Mason Kinsey (shown above at Berry College) and Evan Oglesby, and it is sponsored by Garrett Kinsey with Double Crown Performance.

Battle of the Heroes to celebrate 10th anniversary

The Easton Foundation announced Monday that they will hold their 9th “Battle of the Heroes” charity flag football game on Saturday, Aug. 6, at Habersham Central High School’s Raider Stadium. Kickoff for the Battle of the Heroes Game presented by Revive Church is set for 7 p.m.

Local horse enthusiast sits in driver’s seat

Horse enthusiast Brooke Hayes will get a chance to put her equestrian skills on display on a national stage later this month. The American Shetland Pony Club Congress is hosted in St Louis July 25-30.

Raiders welcome competition in scrimmages

The intense summer heat could not slow down Habersham Central’s burgeoning 2022 football squad from doing what it does best – compete on every play. The Raiders hosted a six-team round robin scrimmage Wednesday and Thursday for area teams to get in some work in pads against another opponent.

Lady Raiders picking up the pace early

Habersham Central’s girls basketball team has some new faces contributing this year, but they are already building chemistry and picking up wins in summer play. The Lady Raiders went 4-0 at GHSA camp last week and traveled to another camp in Ringgold early this week.
