Raider cagers win while they learn new system

The veterans on Habersham Central’s boys basketball team have worked with three different head coaches, learning a new system each time. New coach Tommy Yancey is hoping his system is the one that sticks, as the Raiders put in work in various summer leagues and showcases.

Raiders showing well in summer 7-on-7s

Habersham Central’s football team is putting in work in the heat to get better before the calendar turns to fall. The Raiders reached the quarterfinals of a 30-team 7-on-7 tournament at the University of Georgia on Tuesday. They competed in another multi-team event on Thursday morning as well.

Raiders’ fall slate leaves room for optimism

Habersham Central has not been able to realistically contend for a region title in football the last two years. But it’s a new day, and a new region.

In Brief: Piedmont hoops camp in August

The Piedmont University basketball camp is open to rising 1st-8th grade boys and girls from Aug. 1-4, 2022. The camp is from 8 a.m. to noon each day, and it will take place at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on Piedmont University’s campus.

Piedmont star earns All-American honors

Piedmont baseball’s Carter Ballstadt was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, the organization announced Wednesday. Ballstadt earned a spot on the first team listing for Division III as an outfielder.

TFS taps Cox as varsity tennis coach

Tallulah Falls School has handed Anthony Cox the reins of the tennis program. In the wake of the boys and girls making the GHSA State Tournament, the future for both teams is very bright.

Catching bass, taking names

Tallulah Falls’ bass fishing program wrapped up its 2022 season over the weekend while competing in the two-day Georgia Bass Nation State Tournament. The high school duo of Haygen James and Koen Eller placed 44th overall, hauling in 15.02 pounds over the two days.
