Raiders let it ride with pair of backfield aces

   As a wise philosopher once said, it takes two to make the thing go right.    Habersham Central has seen a rushing renaissance this season behind two seniors who find ways to make big plays even though the defense knows they are coming.

Retiring coach Ausburn helped build decades of future Raiders

   Mark Ausburn wasn’t supposed to be a football coach. Now as he enters retirement after leading his team to a championship, he couldn’t have imagined anything else.

Tallulah Falls' Corbett set for switch from hardwood to the beach

   Tallulah Falls senior volleyball standout Katy Corbett has committed to continue her education and playing career at Mercer University. She will make the switch from indoor to beach volleyball.    “This commitment happened in about two weeks,” Corbett said.

Four Raiders swim their way into state cuts in first meet

   Habersham Central’s varsity swim team traveled to Frances Meadows to compete in Cherokee Bluff’s Monster Meet over the weekend.     The Raiders placed second overall out of seven schools. Haydn Tatum was the top scorer for the boys team and Charity Lyons was the top scorer for the girls.

Tallulah Falls swimmers shine in opening meet

   The season-opening swim meet at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville saw the Tallulah Falls middle and high schools both place second overall.     The high school girls and high school boys both came in second.

   Jackson Clouatre is just trying to enjoy the ride.    Habersham Central’s senior running back is in his third year as a key piece for the varsity Raiders, and he is approaching some rare air in the 50-year history of the school.

   Many high school teams across the country put their best athlete at quarterback, even if that position is not part of his future.    Habersham Central coach Benji Harrison made that decision with Joshua Pickett, who had no problem doing what his coach felt was best to help the team.

Raiders take on Lanier at home Friday night

   The third leg of Habersham Central’s ironman triathlon comes Friday night, when Lanier comes to town for another big Region 8-6A game.     Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Raider Stadium.
