Calm before the storm for Raiders

Surgical play lands Lacy in Raider lore

   John Lacy is one of the scrappiest players to ever don a Habersham Central basketball jersey. As the Raiders’ starting point guard from 1998-2000, Lacy was twice voted team captain under Coach Jim Van Hooser.    During that run, Habersham saw a state playoff berth and climbed all the way to No.

Raiders’ host padded camp, continue summer work

   Habersham Central hosted a handful of area high schools this week for a padded football camp. The Raiders, Hart County, Morgan County and West Hall all took the field Tuesday and Wednesday morning to get in some action before the highest temperatures of the day set in.

JoJo getting some looks

   Habersham Central’s 6-foot-8 center Josiah “JoJo” McCurry has been dominant for the Raiders these past couple seasons. The soon-to-be senior is likely to reel in a host of collegiate offers.    This week brought his first, as Young Harris extended a scholarship offer in the big man’s direction.

Wallace wears many hats as coach, educator

   If you’re ever in a room full of people and can’t seem to remember anyone’s name, you better hope Ric Wallace is there to get you out of the jam. Remembering names is a skill the current Habersham Central soccer coach picked up during his days as a pharmaceutical salesman.

Barrett keeping busy here and abroad before college

   Recent Habersham Central graduate Kyia Barrett first committed to play basketball at Anderson University in the spring of 2023. At the time, graduation seemed like some far away event, way off in the distance.

Alumna steps up to mentor young Lady Raider team

   The Habersham Central girls basketball team is finally coming up for air after a busy early summer.    After a week of practice followed by hosting a youth camp the week before last, the Lady Raiders spent a weekend at Piedmont University for FCA camp.
