Make the regular season great again

   As I’ve previously discussed, my relationship with the Atlanta Braves can, at times, be highly volatile. Most seasons it’s contentious at best.

Rising Duke senior Pickett is ‘in the game’

   “E.A. Sports – It’s in the game.”    For many around the country who grew up even remotely familiar with the E.A. Sports video game franchise, the phrase – spoken in the punchy voice of the company’s Andrew Anthony – can still be heard echoing around whatever room houses their gaming setup.

Local travel ball team secures ‘Golden Ticket’ to Cooperstown

   The Home Plate Chili Dogs North Georgia 12U baseball team from Demorest is heading to Cooperstown, N.Y., to compete in what is referred to as one the best youth baseball tournaments in the country.

Multi-talented Wade getting better and giving back

   Clarkesville native and Habersham Central alum Taylor Wade continues to improve on the softball diamond. This past season for Reinhardt University, Wade played in all 52 games for the Eagles as a sophomore. She boasted a .394 average with 21 RBIs, 38 runs, 21 stolen bases and 2 home runs.

Raiders eye passing precision

   The “break” in summer break seems to get shorter and shorter each summer for high school athletes. But that’s just the name of the game this day in age. Sports are more competitive and there are far more activities, camps and tournaments for teams to participate in.

Feltus hopes to make big sophomore leap

   The Habersham Central football team has been grinding it out on the gridiron so far this summer. The community, meanwhile, got its first glimpse of what the Raiders will look like this year at last month’s spring game versus Hart County.

Both Raider hoops teams searching for identity over summer

   After the Lady Raiders wrap up their youth camp this week, the Habersham boys basketball team will be ready to begin its summer camp Monday. Geared towards 2nd through 9th graders, the week-long camp will feature personalized instruction by Coach Tommy Yancey and much of his current varsity team.
