Raiders ‘sacrifice’ in summer, prepare for Aug. 4 exhibition

Just over two more weeks now – 16 days, to be precise – for those who have counted and are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to once again see the Raiders take the turf on a Friday night. And while the Aug.

A good feeling about sports here

Didn’t summer just start? I guess it’s only been about two months since the last day of school –  not much time in the grand scheme of things – but it feels more like two days ago. One blink of an eye and the end of the road is in sight.

Lady Raiders’ ‘generational talent’ gets some summer work in out west

No one player seemed to impact all facets of a match last season quite like Paisley Cathey. One moment, she’d be peppering opposing goals with lasers. The next, she’d be all the way at the other end helping the defense pitch one of its seven shutouts – a school record.

Familiar crowd for the 4th

The 4th of July looks a bit different these days in my family. For over two decades, my dad’s side of the family – 10 of us – would gather at the beach. Each year, we’d repeat the same traditions with a remarkable degree of accuracy.

Hab Cheer a proud reflection of Raider S-P-I-R-I-T

As has been the case across Habersham Central athletics, the Raider Cheer program has been hard at work this summer. Cheerleaders have been busy attending various camps, participating in summer workouts, taking ad photos for the program and, of course, getting together for some team bonding events.

Dooley looks like a hoops lifer

For four years, Habersham hoopster Malachi Dooley was a walking, talking, crowd-pleasing highlight reel draped in orange and blue. Now, the former Raider aims to captivate fans of Oglethorpe in a similar fashion.

Dead week? Things are about to pick up

With this week being a GHSA “Dead Week” no organized activities for Habersham Central athletics took place. This year, it represents the calm before the storm. In mere weeks, school will be in session and the HCHS campus will be fluttering. Volleyball tips things off on Aug. 3.
