Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus

Editor’s note: Francis P. Church’s editorial “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” is one of the most famous editorials ever written. It first appeared in The New York Sun in 1897. It is The Northeast Georgian’s pleasure to share this famous editorial with our readers once again this year.

Unwanted seasons greetings growing old fast

We are all used to having full mailboxes this time of year, as loved ones connect with each other through Christmas cards and other festive holiday gifts. What we never bargained for is how many political flyers are besieging Georgians every day of this holiday season.

Letters to the Editor

Stop the radical left To the editor: My wife and I are Floridians who love Georgia, and we have been grateful recipients of much Georgian hospitality in our travels.

Last-minute help for families in need

Ready or not, the Christmas season is upon us. This week our editorial board realized there is no local Toys for Tots drive this year. So, we are joining forces with the VFW Grant-Reeves Post 7720 to make a last-minute push to make sure all children receive a gift.

Letters to the Editor

Protect our children To the editor: One heartbreaking issue facing Georgians in the upcoming U.S. Senate runoff is the need to break the nation’s school-to-prison pipeline.

It is definitely a new day in Downtown Cornelia. During our staff meeting Monday morning, Publisher Alan NeSmith got excited all over again explaining the details of their Downtown Christmas held last Saturday night.

Let’s see some local letters

A New Year is less than a month away, and we believe few tears will be shed saying goodbye to 2020. It is a year we will never forget. However, most of us sure would like to. As we look to 2021 with fresh plans and resolutions, we have a suggestion for you to consider.

Letters to the Editor

Can’t lock someone up for their opinion To the editor: It continues to befuddle me that any ordinary citizen can harbor so much hatred and animosity toward a political individual with whom they will never, ever have any personal interaction.

More questions than answers

The city of Baldwin has been operating without a city manager since July 30 when Jerry Neace’s employment contract was terminated at the council’s discretion. Baldwin taxpayers then had to fork out $101,021.04 to Neace for the remainder of his contract, but still don’t know why it was terminated.
