Compete safely, fairly in all sports

   The Olympic Games are expected to be the epitome of dignified athletic competition for the entire world. The sportsmanship and statesmanship of the athletes and all involved are put on a pedestal for everyone to emulate.

This car is a Vibe – literally and figuratively

   In 2005, I bought a barely-used Pontiac Vibe at a small dealership in Robbinsville, N.C.    Today, that car is parked in front of my house. That’s right, it survived 19 years and almost 300,000 miles.    Like Han Solo once said, I’ve made a few modifications myself.

Respect the safety of children

   Though it still seems too warm out for school to start, teachers are already back and the students return to Habersham County Schools on Friday morning, bright and early.    That is going to put a lot of parents and bus drivers back on the road carrying our precious cargo, namely the children.

Lesson in human decency can be learned in grammar school

   When I was in elementary school – it was either the sixth or seventh grade – my classmates elected me to fight a boy named Johnny because he supposedly was picking on smaller kids.    It was almost an honor.    The fight took place down at the railroad tracks near the school.

Protect and thank our farmers

   In the last week, much needed rain showers have coated Habersham County after several weeks of extremely dry weather that put an excess burden on local farmers.

Distance around the Universe   To the editor:    I solved the problem as seen on TV’s 60 Minutes five weeks ago. The 16 problem triangle leads to greater solutions. My theory is a circular Universe with a square inside this and a smaller square inside.

   Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners – two of the five, anyway – are optimistic that a budget can be passed Monday night for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
