   Habersham County United Way’s annual fundraising campaign has officially kicked off. On Aug. 13, more than 135 people filled the room in support. The goal for this year’s campaign is $650,000.

I lost my best friend

   My husband, Matthew Osborne, is gone.    I still expect him to walk through the door, any door, or walk down the stairs. I’m waiting for something that according to facts — something I typically thrive on and don’t work against me in this manner — is not going to happen.

   When the deluge hit Habersham County on Sunday night, all I could think of was The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.    “The rain, rain, rain came down, down, down …” and so forth. Folks around my age probably remember this children’s classic.

Sometimes there are no words to say. This is one of those times for our editorial team at The Northeast Georgian. Tuesday morning, our newspaper staff learned that Matthew Osborne, our editor, had died. He was a dedicated family man and professional who loved and was shown love.
