A letter to two first-time presidential voters

Dear Wyatt and Hayes:    You are about to experience an American privilege, one that your great-grandfathers helped to protect. Both men served in the Army in the Philippines. Neither knew each other. And they certainly didn’t know that one’s son would marry the other’s daughter.

Celebrate safely

Many folks from around Habersham County and the region will gather Thursday in Demorest to celebrate America’s 248th birthday.    The City of Demorest has always done a terrific job of hosting the Fourth of July as their crown jewel event of the annual calendar.

Act like an American To the editor:    The Fourth of July is America’s birthday. If we are true Americans, why can’t we show it by flying our flag, the red, white and blue. We complain that our country is falling apart. But we forget to show how much we love our country. We gripe and complain.

Fishing and falling in Panther Creek

By Bill Hager When my new friend Phil from Toccoa asked me to introduce him to fly fishing in the area, I knew that sooner or later we’d have to fish the trout stream closest to his home, which is Panther Creek.
