   The transfer of inmates from Lee Arrendale State Prison cannot come soon enough. The facility is a blight on our community and an embarrassment to the tenets of basic freedom.

Political forums materialize

   The Northeast Georgian will host a political forum for Baldwin’s mayoral race at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, here at the newspaper office.    In the past, we have had candidates debate right outside in the parking lot, with folks bringing their lawn chairs to hear the political discourse.

Musings on a new jail To the editor:    Anytime there is a need for a product or service and you meet that need with a product or service, you have an opportunity. The recent TV stories about overcrowding in the Fulton and Clayton County jails is a perfect example.

   THUMBS UP to the folks running Downtown Cornelia for putting on another fabulous Big Red Apple Festival over the weekend.    We had visitors from all over to enjoy car shows, hayrides, vendors and plenty of fun with our local residents.
