Party for the elite To the editor:    Knowing that this is the 200th birthday of Clarkesville, I expected a big celebration on the Fourth of July this year.    Instead, I read in the newspaper that there was a celebration at the beautiful homestead – the Charm House – last week.

Thanksgiving: Savoring and making memories

Thanksgiving.    How does this holiday resonate with you?    For me, it’s savoring memories and making memories.    As a skinny boy with buzz-cut hair, I squirmed for 175 miles in the backseat of our family’s first new car.

What a birthday celebration

Clarkesville planned for a long time to celebrate its 200th birthday with a yearlong string of events in 2023, and it is easy to say that it was a major success.

Jesus is Lord To the editor:    I would like to respond to a comment made by Mr. Tim Garvin-Leighton, campus minister and assistant professor of religion at Piedmont University, in an article concerning the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Thanksgiving has no equal

I can’t handle Christmas lights already being up before Thanksgiving. I just can’t. It’s just one of things I am going to hold onto. We have compromised on so many things, but on this point, I will not budge.    But this will not be an angry column or even a slightly-annoyed one.

Orchard doesn’t need a tower To the editor:    Don’t take us wrong. The Orchard does want a more effective Radio EMS system for our county. It is misunderstood that we do not want the new radio system.

Your local newspaper is here

The national and international news has been hard to read, listen to or watch for far too long. Frankly, it is a wonder we all are not walking around with stomach ulcers. Good gracious.    Unfortunately, too many Americans have decided to tune out any and all news.

Smoke this problem early

Vaping in schools is not a new problem, just a technologically advanced one.    School officials have always been faced with the possibility of students smoking during learning hours, but the new devices available in our modern world have brought new dangers to light.

Do not be deceived To the editor:    More than once this weekend I have heard or read that the God of Jews, Christians and Muslims are one and the same. One of those times was when I was reading a quote by Tim Garvin-Leighton in an article  discussing the Middle East conflict that was in our paper.
