Pumped about new Black Friday ways

Unlike most previous day after Thanksgivings, I entered into the Black Friday sales melee and escaped without bodily injury, but did sustain a devastating blow to my ego.

Good riddance to election

To the editor: The Georgia follow-up nastiness will soon be at an end. My congratulations for all of the nasty, evil rhetoric both parties, Republican and Democrat, used to make their cases. To date, neither party’s candidate spoke of what they were going to do for the state, if elected.

Playing the long game

Many of the problems built up over the years in Habersham County are interconnected. There have been plenty of recent debates about what the county’s largest priority should be, ranging from the jail to the landfill to the hospital.

… And then the check engine light starts to come on

Give me a few minutes to get still and I can sleep anywhere. After a full-throttle day of newspapering there’s no need for a pillow or comfy mattress. Just let me get good and still and zzzzzz. Monday evening, I was instructed to get still in an awfully awkward position. And I nodded off.

McGriff gets through, but gates still locked for others

A Christmas miracle happened early this week – the Baseball Hall of Fame finally got one right. Fred McGriff, known affectionately as the “Crime Dog” to his fans, was elected to the Hall by the Contemporary Era Committee, a group that included Braves legends Chipper Jones and Greg Maddux.

Recreation not a priority

To the editor: After reading Friday’s article regarding the Recreation Director’s request to significantly expand her departments headcount, I had to laugh out loud. Clearly, the Recreation Director does not read The Northeast Georgian -or listen to local radio.

After 81 years, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s statement still rings true. The attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, absolutely has lived in infamy.

Put a bow on this election

Christmastime is here, and it’s time to prepare for parties, feasts and presents. It is not generally time for elections, but here we are anyway, watching commercial after commercial for Herschel Walker and Raphael Warnock. And how do you like the barrage of text messages invading your phone?
