Habersham County parks and recreation slowly opening facilities

   Habersham County Parks and Recreation is nearly at Phase 2 of its reopening plan, which begins Monday, June 15.    The fields behind the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center have been open the last couple of weeks to groups smaller than 25 people.

Habersham Central athletes get back to work

   Three months without any sports has seemed like an eternity for some, but Habersham Central High School’s top athletes were happy just to get a chance to start working out again this week at school, preparing for what they hope is a normal season in 2020-21.

Delayed Election Day finally arrives in Georgia

   Georgia voters finally get a chance to make their voices heard Tuesday when the delayed primary election will be held across the state.    In Habersham County, there are plenty of big decisions to make, including for the next sheriff, who will be the biggest office decided by Tuesday night.

Tallulah Falls star golfers push each other on the links

   Sixth-grader Maggie Jackson was forced to hit a shot from behind a tree in practice. She was nervous as teammates  – including Brinson Hall – looked on. After she took the swing, the ball hit a tree and ricocheted over her head. She was mortified. She immediately took her next swing.

Tallulah Falls' ‘Cancer Bros’ share bond beyond sports

   Louis Zamperini, an Olympic distance runner, survived a plane crash during a mission in World War II. Zamperini became a prisoner of war, surviving the odds despite experiencing brutal torture and suffering.

Gerrin led hard-hitting defense on his way to Ring of Honor

   There are many great defenses remembered throughout history – the 1985 Bears, the early 2000s Ravens and Buccaneers, and the Blackshirts of Nebraska.    Habersham Central’s version that predated all those wrecking crews is the 1981 Raider squad that allowed just 90 points over 11 games.

Radcliffe broke the mold on the way to Habersham Central's Ring of Honor

   Chad Radcliffe was a pass-catching tight end before passing was fashionable, and he was a 200-pound track athlete when his fellow runners were far smaller.    Radcliffe rode his exceptional talents to a strong college career and now, a spot in Habersham Central High School’s Ring of Honor.
