Kindness is still here; just look in your own neighborhood

   If you, like me, sometimes think that members of the human race have been vaccinated against kindness, we’re both wrong. It’s still here. We just need to turn away from all the hate and discord around us—and in our nation’s capital—and look for the goodness in people.

See better in four years To the editor:    I think all the diehards have finally seen what they really have in these stupid Democrats.  Hillary called every one that voted for Trump deplorables and Biden (the dummy) called us garbage.

A car tire for your thoughts

   On Dec. 18, 2023, I received an early Christmas present – or maybe it was a lump of coal. I drove down a dark Highway 441 toward Athens with no streetlights or other cars around to illuminate the road – just me and my mighty low beam headlights.

• Thumbs up to Cornelia Main Street Manager Noah Hamil for the work he did on a wonderful Christmas parade in Cornelia. The county’s parade alternates each year between cities, so it can’t be an easy undertaking on whoever’s turn it is that year.

Eligibility for Promise tied to zone

   There are many good reasons to provide educational options to all children, not just some. The best reason, of course, is that all children deserve access to the education that best fits their needs. No child should be stuck in a substandard school just because of her ZIP code.

Get off the carousel

   Perhaps the city of Clarkesville should build a carousel downtown.    Everyone loves to take a ride on the prettiest pony and go around in circles, smiling and waving to the crowd each rotation.    We think certain members of the county commission would especially love it.

Fishing with the Giving Man

   I first met the Giving Man at a surprise birthday party my wife threw for me a couple of decades ago.  We had gotten to know his wife, Linda, and she had told us about her husband who loved to fish. My wife invited Linda and her spouse, Dave, to come to my birthday party.
