A case for the fine arts
To the editor:
The arts enrich our lives in countless ways, offering cultural, educational, and personal growth opportunities for individuals and communities alike.
Students across Georgia are enjoying Thanksgiving break. For many families, their schools are one of the things that makes them grateful this week — even if the kids may not admit it.
Other families may not feel the same way. Maybe their child is struggling.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is all about coming together with family and friends.
There’s been a lot of tension and division lately in our country and around the world.
A tradition I learned from Shane Scoggins at the Franklin County Citizen Leader, that he learned from Gary Jones at The Elberton Star is a Thanksgiving column listing the things they were grateful for. I’m happy to once again continue that tradition this year.
Amendment to passage of War Crime Acts
To the editor:
Amendment to passage of War Crime Acts
No American representative shall be able to give advice to a nation’s war efforts which may be run by wanted war criminals. This would include association, or could involve business efforts as well.
It’s always a treat to walk into Mt. Airy’s Town Hall and see the history of the town’s old schoolhouse.
Some buildings, like that one, are worth saving, preserving and repurposing.
Others are not.

A small blackboard rests in an easel on our kitchen counter. Its message changes occasionally. Monday night, while washing my hands, I noticed a new one: “Even in the valley, God is good.
Campaign promises, like that late-night visit to the fridge when you have a slice (or two) of leftover pizza and then (why not?) a few spoonfuls or (OK, fine) a bowl of ice cream, tend to hit differently in the cold light of day.
We’re proud that President-elect Donald Trump has selected our former representative Doug Collins to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs. Being a veteran himself, he has the experience and knowledge to understand the needs of veterans and how to best address those needs.
