A newspaper worth its salt prints stories without favors

   Remember The Waltons on TV? It was a long-running yarn following the lives of a struggling, Depression-era, God-loving family in the mountains of Virginia. It might have been a bit too syrupy for some, but we thought it was a nice break from some of the crime shows of the 1970s.

   Downtown Cornelia folks did it again! By all accounts it appears that The Big Red Apple Festival, Cornelia’s oldest festival, was a huge success.

A year in the foothills

   The first time I ever set foot in Habersham County, it was St. Patrick’s Day 2021. I had traveled from Athens with a friend to get our COVID vaccines when the fairgrounds had a drive-thru clinic. We stopped at Dairy Queen afterward to celebrate. I never thought I would go back.

   The stats are tragic and sobering.    In 2022 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that on average a total of 756 children were killed in passenger vehicles and over 120,000 were injured.

I can see clearly now

   One of the first things most people mention when they get glasses is their amazement at being able to see the individual leaves on trees. I always thought the statement seemed outlandish.
