A new cycle of elected officials has been sworn in, and there are commissioners and councilmembers ready to serve the public in 2024.    Our elected officials put in long hours in many cases in addition to their regular vocations to try and help make Habersham County and their cities a better place.

Drive a self-charging electric car To the editor:    I had an idea to place a propeller on top of an electric car to charge the batteries once 20 years ago, however it was already thought of by an inventor in Japan.    I have learned it was not used because of the danger factor.

Raiders epitomize selflessness

Although I did catch the final few games last year when I arrived at The Northeast Georgian, this season has been my first in-depth look at Habersham Central’s boys basketball team. Color me impressed.    Yeah I get it.

Many serve us well in crises

They say if you do not like the weather in North Georgia, wait a day. That especially applies in the winter time, when we have no idea whether we will get a cold snap, or a flood or just plain 65 degrees in the afternoon on New Year’s Day.

God’s wrath = great anger To the editor:    Do you believe the Bible? I do and it makes me think, does it you? God’s wrath is not preached very often but that doesn’t remove God’s wrath, does it? God’s wrath is in the Bible and it also tells us God never changes.

Suggested reading for the Assembly

If you should read that I died under an avalanche, it won’t be on a ski slope in the Swiss Alps.    Oh, no.    I’d probably enjoy a trip to Switzerland, but there’s another avalanche more likely to smother me. It’s the leaning tower of books that I have on deck to read.

Don’t risk innocent lives on the highway

The new year has already seen a handful of wrecks on Highway 365, one of the most dangerous roads in North Georgia.    Fortunately, no one has been killed so far in 2024, but that first time is sadly inevitable.

It was a somewhat fitting end to a terrible 2023, honestly.    I spent most of Christmas week sick in bed with the flu, and being sick is bad enough as it is. But that was not even the worst of it.
