Giving thanks on Father’s Day

Today is about giving thanks for our dads. On this special day, I truly believe we are to give thanks and to honor our dads. Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

Finding our growth zone

Demorest is suddenly seeing a flood of new building projects, including the apartment complex on 441 Business Highway and a proposed complex on Arlington Street. A lot of folks came out to protest the latter complex, saying they did not want apartments in their neighborhood.

Still feeling the sting years later

It’s been 19 years, but I still feel the effects every time I put my shoes on. We moved around a lot when I was a kid, but we settled in St. Petersburg, Fla., for most of my school years. I started mowing the lawn before I was 10, but our yard was not all that large, so it was pretty easy.

A letter on gun control

To the editor: I wish to begin my letter by expressing my sympathy for victims and families involved in mass shootings. It would have to be horrible beyond words. I cannot change what has happened, but I can address the future.

Lemons and blueberries

Ok, the answer for the riddle was ... onion. Thanks for playing along. Lemon and Blueberry just seem to go together perfectly. So, I’ve come up with a wonderful cake that brings both of those together for an awesome dessert. It all starts with my simple homemade cake recipe that’s easy.

Thursday afternoon, I had the pleasure to speak to the Habersham County Rotary Club. President Spencer Carr asked me to talk and I gladly excepted. You see, this Club was the first meeting I attended when moving to our community.
