Teachers, students bring a lot to the table

With nearly 40 years of experience as an educator, both K-12 and higher education, I have felt very blessed. No matter the generation or the region of the country, students really haven’t changed much, and good teaching is good teaching.

Fair is a must-see event

To the editor: County fairs have been a tradition in our country for more than a 170 years. Habersham County has hosted our annual Chattahoochee Mountain Fair for more than 45 years and this year they have events to entertain the young and old.

‘State of the world’ creates reluctant parents

It’s no secret that we live in uncertain times. But with a few short-lived exceptions, when was it otherwise? I’ll give you the 1990s, a time of growing economic prosperity and a relatively peaceful interregnum (from an American perspective, anyway) between the Cold War and 9/11.

The concept of rooting for teenage boys to defeat other teenage boys from another county in an athletic contest seems like it probably goes back to the times of the Roman Empire and the Coliseum.

The importance of communication

“What we have here is failure to communicate.” – The Captain in the movie Cool Hand Luke To be such a connected society, I’m concerned as a whole, we are losing the ability to effectively communicate. Modern technology gives us ample opportunities to stay in touch with one another.
