To the editor: My name is Bucky Kimsey and I grew up in Cornelia but live in Johns Creek, Georgia today. To the best of my knowledge, I have been getting The Northeast Georgian for over 50 years and I obviously read it and enjoy it.

Soul nudges and heart tingles

I was thrift shopping for dorm stuff. The cashier appeared to be one of the most unhappy, maddest people ever. I was six people deep in the line and it seemed like she got more and more exasperated with each passing customer.

Who wants to be a super hero?

Have you noticed what big business comic book heroes have become lately? They’ve multiplied far beyond Superman and Supergirl. Superherodb.com lists nearly 20,000 superheroes in alphabetical order. Movies based on the top 10 have netted over $15 trillion.

Sports bring community together

The heart of every community is its schools, and August begins the cycle of coming together for community events based around the Raiders and Indians. Football started Friday night in impressive fashion, with the Raiders winning 47-0 over East Hall in a preseason jamboree.

Enough is enough already

To the editor: Habersham County officials recently decided to raise millage rates in the county and did exactly that. Good for them! (Not really.) Now these same fine folks want to levy an additional penny sales tax on county residents to support road maintenance.

Another day of race in America

To the editor: When this incredibly inane story first broke, it was so unimportant compared to America’s other problems, that I chose to ignore it. I should have known that any story involving a black athlete in modern day America, had to saturate what now passes as “news.

Make the most of your meals

Ok, I realize that we are all trying to cut costs and save a few dollars on whatever we need or are buying. I know it’s been really tough for all of us. Whew, you go grocery shopping for the things you really need and oh my goodness gracious you have to be prepared for sticker shock.
