Getting it right

A wise newspaper publisher was once approached by a reader who noted a correction on Page 2 of his edition. The reader said something akin to, “Your reporting is inaccurate. Look, you had a mistake in the paper. You had it wrong.” The publisher said, “No, sir.

On that Sunday, we watched Palmer, the 1962 winner, award the young Golden Bear his first green jacket – golf’s Holy Grail.

Times have changed since the 1963 Masters

Jesup’s Sand Greens Golf Course was a million miles from the Augusta National Golf Club. But a Trailways bus took a buddy and me to Augusta in a little over three hours. I had as much business being at the Masters golf tournament as a hippo trying to hula-dance.

Many factors cause deaths

Sound and fury in Cornelia

To the editor: Years ago, South Main Street was a quiet road to Cornelia. That was then and this is now. It has turned out to be a road for trying out cars and seeing who has the loudest. When I asked how many tickets had been written since the new ordinance was passed, the answer was none.

Protect our children

April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. And for a dozen years, we have placed pinwheels on our front pages in April to add focus to efforts to protect our most vulnerable residents. Abuse takes many forms, including physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and neglect.

A proud, honorable young man shows us the way

Mornings should ramp up with prayer, coffee, bacon, eggs and biscuits before one starts their day. Just as a baseball game should ramp up with a team prayer, stretching, warming up and the players and coaches taking their hats off while the National Anthem is played.

Cheers and jeers

THUMBS UP to having our community fully back. It has taken more than three years after the original “two weeks to flatten the curve,” but 2023 is shaping up to be the first full year since 2019 where everything is totally back to normal.
